Game of Thrones has been dominating the entertainment news cycle today because of the impressive number of awards it won at last night’s Emmy ceremonies, but as executive producer David Benioff mentioned when accepting the award for Best Drama, production on Season 6 continues in Northern Ireland and Spain.
And so does news about Game of Thrones Season 6 continue to come in. Fansite Watchers on the Wall, which has broken several casting notices this year, has a couple of new ones.
First up, the producers are looking (or were looking and have since cast, more likely) for a non-white (preferably mixed race or middle eastern) actress aged 18-22 years to play a young widow. This character has seen some difficult times, but she hasn’t let it sour her. She’s gentle, bright, and will have a decent sized role in two episodes.
The actress who plays the young widow will be filming the weeks beginning October 12 and November 2. The week in October puts her in Almería, which has been suggested will stand in for somewhere in Essos. The mention of her being non-white backs that up, as pretty much every non-white character on the show is in Essos. She could be a member of the Daenerys’ new Dothraki horde, perhaps someone Dany befriends, but she could also be located elsewhere in Essos, from Meereen to Braavos.
Next, HBO is looking for a young warrior. This actor should be 20-25 and, once again, non-white. He belongs to a “warrior race,” but is shorter and smaller than his companions. He makes up for it by being smart and quick-witted.
The actor who plays this character will be filming for a week around October 9, which also puts him in Almería. Everything points to this guy being Dothraki, especially the bit about being part of a “warrior race.” Specifically, the parts about him being small but smart make him sound like a Dothraki nerd, which could be awesome.
Here’s a left-field suggestion: this might be Rodrik “the Reader” Harlaw, Asha Greyjoy’s uncle and a man who bucks the trend of the war-like Ironborn by being interested in books. Still, that’s a big stretch, considering that this call asks for someone non-white and aged 20-25. Still, we can dream. More as it develops.
