And the Game of Thrones Movie People Most Want to See is…

…Robert’s Rebellion.

Honestly, this probably was always going to be the odds-on favorite to win this particular vote. This is the series of events that lead up to the current timeline on Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire, and seeing it in detail could shed light on many questions the characters are grappling with now, like Jon Snow’s parentage, the deaths of Ned Stark’s father and brother—Rickard and Brandon—and what exactly happened between Jaime and the last Targaryen king to rule from the Iron Throne.

Maybe it’s the fact that fans really want to see a young and virile Robert Baratheon—the hammer wielding hero depicted above—or perhaps people are eager to unravel the mystery behind Jon Snow’s birth.

WiCnet writer Ani put it best, when she stumped for Robert’s Rebellion during the last Small Council post:

"What do I want a movie of? The prequel of course. The Year of the False Spring, the Tourney at Harrenhal, the moment when Rhaegar and Lyanna fell in love. The “kidnapping” of Lyanna, when Rhaegar stole away with her from Winterfell. Robert’s Rebellion. The fall of the Targaryen dynasty that had ruled unbroken for centuries. The Battle of the Trident. We don’t have to see Lyanna’s death, the show will be providing that footage for us next year. But I would love to see it end with the birth of Dany, and the escape across the Narrow Sea."

Then there’s this from WiCnet reader Dirk:

"A trilogy of Robert’s rebellion is way much more interesting. Imagine the love story, the battle in the trident, the tower of joy, the birth of Daenerys in Dragonstone… Ah, it could rival The Lord of the Rings in epic proportions."

Well said, Dirk. You and Ani are on the right track, I think. Although I argued for the Doom of Valyria, Robert’s Rebellion would definitely translate better onscreen. You already have familiar faces, names, and places that most show-only fans are comfortable with…plus you wouldn’t blow your whole budget on dragons, so that’s a plus.
