Returning character to get increased screen time in Season 7, plus a new casting call
By Dan Selcke
The Emmys are over, and the Game of Thrones cast members are back to work shooting Season 7. Several of them were spotted leaving LA, presumably bound for Westeros Belfast.
Sansa Stark, air traveler.
So Kit Harington AND Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo) were at LAX, eh? Note that the tweet only says that Harington was headed to Belfast, but this isn’t the first time Momoa has been seen hanging around GoT cast and crew members during this filming season. Put a pin in that one.
At some point, Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) will be in the area:
And then, in Belfast itself:
Theon, Jon Snow, and Bran all hanging out. Must have been a fun site.
Next, we have some reports from fansite Watchers on the Wall. Warning: potential SPOILERS beyond this point.
According to “reliable sources” at Watchers, Paul Kaye will once again play Thoros of Myr in Season 7. Also, we’ll reportedly see more of him than we did in Season 6.
That all makes sense. You’ll recall that, following Season 3, we didn’t see Thoros for two years. He popped up again in Season 6, still following Beric Dondarrion, leader of the Brotherhood Without Banners. Now, it looks like he, Beric, and the Hound are going to head north to fight the looming threat of the White Walkers.
Watchers also has a scoop regarding a new casting call for Season 7: the show is looking for a Fierce Warrior. The actor who plays him should:
- Be aged 35-40.
- Ideally, have Middle Eastern heritage.
- Be charismatic, at least 6 feet tall, and possess “an intimidating, muscular physique.”
- Be willing to get fitted for a long-haired wig.
All this points toward a Dothraki character. This actor will film in late September, and then for an additional three weeks starting on October 21, and maybe more after November 22. That’s a lot of time on set, but apparently the character only has a few lines. He’s seen “significantly” over several episodes, though. Maybe a strong-but-silent bodyguard-type for Daenerys? Strong Belwas? IS IT STRONG BELWAS? (Probably not, since Belwas was bald and not Dothraki. Still, hope springs eternal.)
The first round of Game of Thrones casting calls broke about a month ago. There, the production was said to be looking for a “Warrior,” also aged 35-40. But for that role, the show wanted a white actor with an English accent, and the character was said to have a “considerable” amount of dialogue. This character seems new.
What do you guys make of all this?
