With filming at the private estate of Las Breñas wrapping up, the Game of Thrones production team did site visits in the Old Town of Cáceres, where it will film later. According to Hoy, yesterday the production hit two different locations for filming in the old city: the Plaza de Santa Maria and the area around the Arco de la Estrella.

Exactly where the show would be shooting in the Old Town locations has been undetermined, except for the Plaza de las Veletas, which was announced as being shut down due to filming from December 12th-14th. But although that was the only location and dates, word was that the production would be working in the city from Dec 7 onward, leaving many to wonder if the rest of those days would be for set up or b-roll shots. (One such location for the last two years was shooting at the Bridge of Cordoba, which was then overlayed to the hilt with CGI to turn it into the Bridge of Volantis.)

For the Plaza de Santa Maria, Hoy notes that the production asked permission to head to the top floors of a couple of the surrounding buildings, the Palace of Mayoralgo and the Golfines de Abajo, in order to discuss high camera angles looking down at the square.

It definitely looks like an area in King’s Landing to me. With both Cersei and Jaime both back in town this season, one could easily imagine the need for a street scene or two. Although one assumes Cersei won’t be exiting the Red Keep into the public eye very much, unless she’s forced to.

Next up for the production: filming at the los Barruecos national monument, where the show will spent 22 days shooting a battle. It looks like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), likely one of the main players in that battle, has shown up in the area.

It’s no surprise to see James Faulkner, either—Randyll Tarly should play a role in the coming clash between the Lannisters and Tyrells. It’s a bit surprising to see Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), though. He was spotted filming at the Castillo de Almodóvar del Río, but we didn’t think he’d be involved in the fight.
