Urban set in Cáceres takes shape, and a clue about an action scene in the far north

With filming on a massive action scene at El Barrueco de Arriba over, the Game of Thrones production is ready for a couple days of filming in the city of Cáceres on December 14 and 15, but not before the cast and crew celebrated the end of the shoot with a big party at Mastropiero Gastrobar y Jardín. Hoy reports that there were 400 people in attendance, and while it was closed to the public, some fun photographs from inside still emerged.

Gimme your keys, executive producer David Benioff.

Hoy also reports that Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) was in attendance, although there’s no picture. People have been spotting Dinklage around Cáceres for a while now, although he’s eluded cameras…until he stopped by this restaurant:

Clarke was likely in town to film a couple of shots at the tail end of that massive action scene at Los Barruecos. We’re still not sure if Dinklage was part of that, is going to film scenes in Cáceres this week, or both, but at least we’re sure he’s there.

Speaking of Cáceres, the outdoor sets there are taking are taking shape. The city will stand in for King’s Landing, and there are plenty of pics going up of the work in progress. For example, this tower of the San Francisco Javier Church, formerly white in color, was repainted to be more in line with King’s Landing’s usual color palette.

Goodbye statue of Saint Peter:

And of course, where there is an outdoor Game of Thrones set in King’s Landing, there must be ivy.

Check out some other shots of the transformation:

With so much happening outdoors, we expect some photos from filming to leak out, although the production is doing its best to block the busiest location—the Plaza de las Veletas—from onlookers.

Heading north to Belfast, filming continues on another big action scene at Wolf Hill Quarry, where the production has built a vast snowscape. Beware SPOILERS beyond this point.

This is a three-week shoot, meaning it’ll be a big deal. Cast members involved include Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Rory McCann (the Hound), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane), and Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont). It looks like the lot of them will go beyond the Wall and run into some serious trouble in the form of 300 extras playing wights. Things could get hairy.

So we know that’ll be happening in Season 7. Now, thanks to a group autograph signing, we have an idea of when.

Harington, Glen, and director Alan Taylor all signed autographs. Taylor, the guy behind seminal Game of Thrones episodes like “Baelor,” “Fire and Blood,” and “Valar Morghulis,” is returning to the show after four seasons away to direct Episode 6 of Season 7. If Taylor is in Belfast beside Harington and Glen, both of whom are filming that action sequence at Wolf Hill Quarry, he’s likely directing it. That means the big wight fight will fall in Episode 6, the penultimate hour of Season 7.

Penultimate episodes on Game of Thrones are traditionally the ones to write home about. Let’s see if this one measures up.
