Big news for Whovians in the United States!

BBC Worldwide North America has announced they’re teaming with Fathom Events to bring Doctor Who back to theaters for a special two-night event. The limited engagement will include a 3D screening of the two-part Series 8 finale, ‘Dark Water’/’Death in Heaven’ plus an exclusive Series 9 prequel, ‘The Doctor’s Meditation.’
‘Dark Water’/’Death in Heaven’ was, of course, the explosive conclusion to Series 8, featuring the reveal that *spoilers* Michelle Gomez’s mysterious character Missy was actually the Master. It also included an epic Cybermen invasion, the death and resurrection of Danny Pink, and the return and demise of fan favorite Osgood.
The theatrical presentation of Doctor Who: Dark Water/Death in Heaven will take place September 15 and 16 only at 7:30 PM (local time), featuring RealD™ 3D and Dolby Atmos sound (in select theaters). There will also be a special interview with Doctor Who stars Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman with Star Trek star and all-around geek Wil Wheaton.
Fathom Events previously partnered with BBC Worldwide to bring the Series 8 premiere, ‘Deep Breath,’ to US theaters last fall. And, of course, the biggest Doctor Who theatrical event came in 2013, when the 50th anniversary special with Matt Smith, David Tennant, and John Hurt, ‘The Day of the Doctor,’ was shown in 3D at theaters around the globe.

Listen, I hated ‘Dark Water’/’Death in Heaven’ and I can tell you with zero doubt that I will be buying these tickets first thing Friday morning. Doctor Who in the theater? In 3D? With a special prequel?! And Wil Wheaton? Okay, that last one’s not that exciting, but everything else is more than enough to put my butt in a seat.
