Imagine that you have your dream job, one that you have wanted for your entire life. You know that the main aspect of the position will be for a finite amount of time, since no one has lasted in the position for more than seven years, but that does not matter. It is still the chance of a lifetime, and it is yours.

Now, imagine that when your tenure comes to an end, there was a way for you to continue that dream job, just in a different way. You still have the recognition, and can still do what you love, but it is a bit different. Essentially, that is what Big Finish and their audio productions provide in Doctor Who, a place for those characters to continue their stories.

Big Finish could also provide one whose dream was to become the Doctor the chance to never truly leave. We know that eventually, at some point in the future, the Twelfth Doctor will regenerate, and another incarnation will take his place. Yet, that does not mean that the Twelfth Doctor cannot live on, especially if Peter Capaldi was willing to come back in a future special.

With the various Big Finish audio productions of Doctor Who, Capaldi would not need to wait for such an episode to appear. Instead, he could continue with his dream job of being the Doctor, continuing his adventures throughout time and space in various audio plays.

Such a role would likely appeal to Capaldi, as he would have the time for any other projects he may have. Yet, like Paul McGann and Colin Baker, the ability to remain the Doctor, even if his incarnation is no longer creating new televised content, may be exactly what Capaldi is looking for. In fact, he may never leave the studio.

When one has their dream job, as Peter Capaldi has on Doctor Who, it is difficult to leave it behind, even when you know the end will eventually come. Fortunately, Big Finish, and their audio productions, could allow Capaldi to remain the Doctor for as long as he wants to. Considering how much fun he has in the role, and how much he obviously loves being the Doctor, Peter Capaldi may never leave Doctor Who behind.
