7. Barristan Selmy
Book readers object! Barristan is not dead! He is alive and well and living in Meereen! He even got POV chapters towards the end of A Dance with Dragons! Barristan Semly cannot be dead!
Barristan Selmy is totally dead, guys. He had to die, and die much quicker than he does in the books. Dany needed that slot of trusted adviser from “back home” vacant so there was a seat waiting for Tyrion when he showed up. It was unfair to Selmy, but what can you do? Things needed to be condensed and sped up. At least he died honorably, even if it was in an alley. It was the first major death of the season to depart significantly from the books, and it heralded several others like it. (But we’ll get to that.)
