Maisie Williams sticks to her “Jon Snow is dead” stance, even though…y’know…

In an impressive display of stick-to-it-iveness, Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) stayed the course regarding her opinion of Jon Snow’s survival in a recent interview with Christian O’Connell on the Absolute Radio breakfast show. “All the time people are asking me if Jon Snow is alive and the answer is no!” she said. “He’s dead! I promise.”

Williams was among the first cast members to stump for Team Jon Snow Is Dead back when the internet was still reeling from his final scene in “Mother’s Mercy.” That she would maintain her position even after a photo of Kit Harington in costume surfaced online shows a level of dedication that is to be commended, or perhaps condemned as pointless now that the cat’s basically out of the bag. It’s all in the eye of the beholder, really.

Another opinion is that Williams is sticking to what many have suggested is the party line on Jon Snow: yes, he died, so saying “He’s dead” isn’t technically a lie, but it does obscure the fact that he will be resurrected sometime in Season 6. It’ll be interesting to hear from Williams and others once the season starts up to see if they were given instructions as to phrasing their responses to the Jon Snow question.

Are you blind, Williams? The ruse is over!

Williams also teased a bit about Arya’s role in Season 6, although she didn’t say anything new. “In the new season my character is blind, which means I’ve been wearing contacts on set, which is a good laugh.” Her comments on what the rest of cast will be up to are a little more interesting.

"I’m aware of the other storylines – we’re given the full script at the beginning of each season so we can read ahead – I always flick through my story first, the suspense is too much. I have to see what I’m up to first and then what other people are up to but it’s never the same as seeing on screen – it’s nice to watch and get the full effect."

What I’m looking for here is any indication that Arya will be crossing into other plotlines, or if she’s staying in Braavos for the entirety of Season 6. So far, we’ve seen her filming action scenes, palling around with a Braavosi theater troupe, and swimming in a harbor, but there’s nothing to firmly indicate that she’ll be leaving Braavos. While it’s far from conclusive, the quote above makes it sound like it’s easy for Williams to read her parts without picking up on any other storylines, which makes me think that Arya will be on her own again. You know the producers are going to want Arya to reenter the fray eventually, but Season 6 might not be the time.

Speaking of Season 6, Lena Headey summarized the whole thing…in emoji form!

I’m looking forward to seeing ? play out on screen. This show could use a little levity. ? might be controversial, though. H/T The Guardian
