La Mole Comic Con 2016 hosted the largest gathering of Doctor Who cosplayers on record. Peter Capaldi was there to accept the award from Guinness World Records.
There have been a number of times in the past when Doctor Who Watch has reported on Doctor Who related Guinness World Record news. In February of 2015, we discussed CSI challenging Doctor Who for “the record for the most countries in which an episode was simulcast.” In May of that year, we mentioned fans at ConCarolinas attempt to set the record for the most Fourth Doctor scarves worn in one place at one time. Last month, we talked about Dalek Asylum Milwaukee’s attempt to set the record for the most amount of Daleks assembled in one place at one time. Also last month, we reported on the contest for the largest personal collection of Doctor Who memorabilia, as well as the largest personal collection of Daleks.
A couple of days ago, we mentioned that fans at La Mole Comic Con would be attempting, on March 19th, to set the record for the largest number of people in Doctor Who cosplay gathered in one place at one time. Well, they have done, it and Peter Capaldi was there to accept the award on behalf of the participants. The the show’s Executive Producer Brian Minchin (listed as “Linchpin” on Guinness’s site) was also in attendance.

The total number of people dressed as various characters and creatures from the show was 492. I could be wrong, but it does not appear that Capaldi was not one of the individuals cosplaying anything. It t would have been quite amusing for him to dress as a previous incarnation of the Doctor. From the pictures, his outfit could have easily been turned into an Eleventh Doctor cosplay with the addition of a bowtie (although it is more of a Pee-wee Herman jacket). Minchin may have cosplayed as someone, but I cannot determine as such from the picture. Is that an EarPod, perhaps?
