I was perusing Twitter earlier today and noticed a peculiar theme with the Doctor Who related tweets: Shoes. The day before the announcement of the actor to play the next companion, we have been graced with a whimsical teaser campaign focussed on the footwear of both the Doctor and the mystery woman. I suppose that it makes sense considering that the big reveal is to happen during a football match… you know, kicking and running and such.
Here is the teaser trailer, which features a quick segment of what appears to be the legs of the Doctor and the new companion running side by side.
Then we have a shot of the Doctor’s boots and the companion’s high tops lined up at the base of the TARDIS.
And then there is a closeup on the detail of the Twelfth Doctor’s new wingtips.
And for a callback, we have a shot of the Eleventh Doctor’s feet in wingtips and the Tenth Doctor’s feet in Converse, relaxing next to one another during what appears to be the filming of the show’s 50th Anniversary Special.
Exciting, indeed!
The Third Doctor’s first concern was with locating his shoes. They have carried an importance in Doctor Who into the present day. After all, when travelling, it is important to have something comfortable on one’s feet.
