Doctor Who: Chris Chibnall to Add Writers Room
By David Hill
We had to imagine that a few changes would be coming to Doctor Who when Chris Chibnall takes over next season. One of those, a writers room, has already been announced.
Doctor Who has been notable for having many different voices over the years. While quite a few writers have been back for multiple episodes, it has been fun to have so many different voices give their take on the Doctor. It helps make the show such a unique experience in that so many different voices can be heard.
That may be changing when Chris Chibnall takes over. One of his first changes as showrunner will be in create a writers room, a more American creation. In this creation, the writers or creative minds will be together, bouncing ideas off one another and working out the plots before the story is given to one writer to complete for the season.
More from Doctor Who
- Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Who Christmas special is a “complete reinvention”
- Ncuti Gatwa is “so nervous” to take on Doctor Who role
- The Doctor and Donna are better than ever in “Wild Blue Yonder”

- Jodie Whittaker didn’t pick up on any of the hate for her version of the Doctor
There are certainly pros and cons to this idea. On the plus side, we may well get a cohesive season, one where the overall plot is straight forward and not bouncing around constantly. On the negative side, this change could make it a lot harder for guest writers to be a part of the upcoming seasons, as the time commitment they may need to make could end up being rather prohibitive.
It will certainly be interesting to see what type of a difference this change makes, if it is even noticeable in Series Eleven. In general, the idea of anything to Americanize Doctor Who, in any way, is a horrendous idea. This change, even though its origins may be stateside, could be a major boon for the show.
Next: Doctor Who may be moved to a different schedule
Chris Chibnall is already getting ready to make changes to Doctor Who. Who knows what other changes he could have in mind, and how many of those may find their way into Series Ten.
