John Barrowman is arguably the hardest working person in show business… as well as one of the most elusive in a way.
With interviews, the writing of books and their subsequent signing tours, fan conventions, recording and performing music, and acting in stage productions, as well as audio and television programs — John Barrowman is a Jack of all trades. (I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.) Other than his astonishing level of energy, another thing that fuels his success is how very savvy he is at self-promotion.

Last week, we posted an article titled ‘Doctor Who: Another Teaser from John Barrowman… About Captain Jack Harkness?‘ It was just one of a plethora, speculating whether or not Barrowman would soon be returning to Doctor Who or even Torchwood on television. This was based on his saying that he was going to Cardiff, but would not tell us why. This is one of his many purposely cryptic comments, seemingly meant to stir his fan base into a frenzy. It is maddening, but we keep coming back for more because we love it. Masochistic? Perhaps.
Anyway, back to the point. Alas, it appears that his trip to Cardiff had nothing to do with Jack coming back to either television program. The real deal is that in the midst of several Big Finish recording sessions, he and Torchwood co-star Gareth David-Lloyd went to visit the Doctor Who Experience, as well as the fan-made shrine to Ianto Jones.
The videos of the adventure are wonderfully cheeky.
Anyway, the dashed dreams of an on-screen return of Jack were compounded by an exchange at the end of his appearance on BBC’s The One Show with Matt Baker and Alex Jones (No, not the bloviating political internet video host from the United States, but the genial television talk show host from the United Kingdom.)
"Jones: Doctor Who or Torchwood: Are you coming back for either of them?Barrowman: I’d love to. Keep watching. Keep watching. I’d love to. I don’t know! It’s not up to me, but keep watching.Jones: You do know!Barrowman: No I don’t!Jones: Ok."
So, this is either the honest truth, or he is sworn to secrecy at this point. He seemed quite sincere to me, but he is an actor, after all.
And then there is this! Is Jackie Tyler going to be in a Big Finish adventure with Jack, or is Camille Coduri voicing a different character?
But we could simply not let you go without sharing one of the vaguest teasers from him yet!
"Barrowman: Right, so that’s enough for the evening. We’re going off to dinner… and we’re going to go discuss something that we’ll be announcing later. Hahahaha! So, uh, you might want to check in, but see you later. Bye!"
John Barrowman, you are an exhausting individual with whom to keep up… but, damn, do you ever make it fun!
And, finally, here it is. Your moment of zen.
