Doctor Who: John Barrowman Confirms that there is No Plan for Jack Harkness to Return to TV

John Barrowman doubles down on his assertion that he has not been asked to come back to Doctor Who on television.

A few days ago, we posted an article virtually dispelling the rumor that there are any plans for John Barrowman to return to television to play his much adored character Captain Jack Harkness on either Doctor Who or Torchwood. Today, he reiterated that message on Twitter in response to a fan-made teaser Christmas trailer that a fan tweeted.

It is a somewhat strange response on Barrowman’s part, seeing as how it seems obvious that Camila knows that the character is not returning — hence the request for him to do so.

Barrowman also responded to another fan, pointing out the fact that the decision to bring back Jack is not ultimately up to him.

At the end of a 2011 interview with Digital Spy about Torchwood: Miracle Day, Barrowman called on fans who wanted to see Jack on Doctor Who again to contact the BBC. Seeing as how many of us have been shouting this message from the rooftops for years, I am not sure how effective our pleas will ever be.

More from Doctor Who

For quite a long time, Barrowman has been expressing his desire for a screen reprisal of his most iconic role. While on a Comic Con panel in 2011, he mentioned that he, Steven Moffat, and Russell T Davies were discussing the possibility of this for Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary special. In 2012, he told MTV Geek that he had the same conversation with Matt Smith. To not not include Jack in the special, Barrowman felt would be “disappointing” and “a shame.” Much to the dismay of many fans, this appearance did not come to pass. But… why not? A scheduling conflict, perhaps?
