GoT Territory’s tackles “The Door” and fashions its most evocative piece yet

If you’re just joining this journey, here are the cliff notes: after Storm Gertrude felled a few trees along the Dark Hedges, a Northern Irish landmark that has stood in for the Kingsroad on Game of Thrones, the hard-working folks behind the GoT Territory campaign collected some of the wood and are fashioning it into a series of 10 elaborately carved doors, each of which describes the story of one episode from Game of Thrones Season 6. It’s already created doors based on “The Red Woman,” “Home,” “Oathbreaker,” and “Book of the Stranger.” Now, it turns its attention toward “The Door,” the fifth episode of the season. And when the title of the episode literally describes what you’re trying to make, you know the result is going to be good.

This is my favorite door so far, mainly because of the thematic unity. Some of the other doors have hit multiple subjects, but this one focuses almost entirely on the conflict between the Night’s King and the Starks. The Night’s King truly looks ominous hovering over the Stark sigil, his hands poised to attack and his army of the dead behind him. Here’s a closer look.

Here’s how GoT Territory describes it:

"The door puts a heavy focus on the dreaded Night’s King and his followers. White Walkers appear by his side with an army of undead Wight’s at his back. The inclusion of the sigil below could also be hinting at the inevitable second confrontation between the Night’s King and a member of the Stark family. The wolf also appears to have roots or branches surrounding it, suggesting which Stark that might be…"

Nice and intriguing.

This door will be housed at Frank Owen’s Bar in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. Once all 10 doors are completed and put in their respective pubs, there will be an epic bar crawl. Off all the doors we’ve yet seen, this is the one most likely to make you uncomfortable while drinking.

The GoT Territory campaign has also teamed up with the Royal Mail to produce a number of limited edition Game of Thrones-themed stamps. This week, the Night’s King gets his turn. I wouldn’t want to open any letter with him on it.

We’ll be bringing you information about the GoT Territory campaign for the rest of the season, which will be here before we know it.
