Arya’s time in Braavos is not going as expected. Last season, I think nearly all of her fans were cheering on the idea of Arya as the badass assassin, and the idea that she would be sent back to Westeros, ready to kill all her enemies like a deadly ninja. What we didn’t count on is that it would require losing herself, and how unwilling she would be to make that choice.

There are spoilers in the water
When Arya joined the House of Black and White LLC, it wasn’t your normal everyday taking of a job. No I-9s and two forms of identification for the Chief of Staff to go make copies of. No tour of the office, no explaining where the pencils and folders are kept, no welcome aboard lunches. Instead, Arya was told that she must give up all the remnants of her old life. She must throw them all into the bay of Braavos in a ritual of self-abnegation.
Perhaps it was a sign when Arya didn’t give up everything, but instead hid her beloved sword, Needle, in a nearby rock. Last week, we saw her withdraw that deposit in a down payment towards returning to her old self again, and giving up on this whole “No One” business. What she didn’t expect was for the Faceless Men (and The Waif) to strike back at her quite so fast.
