Game of Thrones Episode 608—”No One”—Preview
By Dan Selcke
“The Broken Man” left several characters in sticky situations. Jon and Sansa didn’t have the men they needed to take on Ramsay, Jaime faced the prospect of storming Riverrun and losing thousands of men in the process, and Arya got stabbed in the gut. What will happen to our heroes next? We’ll find out in “No One.” Here’s HBO’s official description:
"While Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) weighs his options, Cersei (Lena Headey) answers a request. Tyrion’s (Peter Dinklage) plans bear fruit. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a new test."
With the exception of Team Stark, who don’t appear in any of HBO’s promotional materials, it sounds like we’ll pick up with all of the characters mentioned above and then some. To me, the most interesting line in that synopsis is the one about Tyrion’s plans bearing fruit. I assume that means that Kinvara the Red Priestess made good on her promise to have her people spread the gospel of Daenerys Targaryen.
Here’s a quick factual breakdown of the episode:
- Start Time: June 12, 2016, 9 p.m. EST
- TV Info: HBO
- Episode: Season 6, Episode 8, “No One”
- Writers: David Benioff & D. B. Weiss
- Director: Mark Mylod
- Run time: 59 minutes
- Live Stream: Stream 1 – Stream 2
Benioff and Weiss are back in the writer’s chair after Bryan Cogman handled duties on the previous two episodes. “No One” will also be the last episode Mark Mylod directs for the year. At 59 minutes, it’s a good deal longer than the two episodes that preceded it, a trend that will continue as the season barrels toward an ending.
And now, let’s look at this week’s trailer.
Cersei finally chooses violence. Will she get revenge for her Walk of Shame at the end of Season 5? We can see the Mountain tearing a few members of the Faith Militant apart up there, so she’s at least going to make some headway.
The trailer also spends a lot of time on Jaime’s siege of Riverrun. Brienne has shown up to complicate matters, and since she’s here to ask for the Blackfish’s help, she and Jaime are technically on opposite sides of the battle. There will be some tough choices ahead for these two.
Arya’s in there, too, although not as much as you’d expect, considering that the episode is named for her. “The Broken Man” featured a huge cliffhanger involving Arya, so surely “No One” will follow up on that. And it looks like the Hound will put that axe to work.
HBO’s cache of official images hold more clues about the episode. In addition to Team Stark, there’s no sign of Daenerys, Bran, Ramsay, or the Ironborn. The Dornish are absent, too, but that’s kind of a given at this point.
We’ll be back tomorrow after (and during) the episode to break it all down.
