Game of Thrones Screencap Breakdown: “The Winds of Winter”
By Ani Bundel
In the Red Keep, Pycelle is waylaid. Perhaps he wasn’t planning to attend the trial, perhaps Cersei wanted him to suffer a particularly grisly fate, or perhaps Qyburn wanted his own form of revenge.
In the Sept, Loras throws himself on the mercy of the court, even admitting that he slept with Renly. It’s pretty horrific, especially with those enormous statues staring down at him.
It’s a short trial, and when it becomes clear that the main event, Cersei, is not going to show up, Lancel is sent to fetch her. I assume she much have anticipated this, since a “little bird” is sent to catch Lancel’s attention and lead him into the catacombs.
The rest of the little birds and their knives are hanging out, waiting for Pycelle. That poor whore will never get her money.
This shot of Lancel, you guys. It’s just so good. Like with Pycelle, Cersei wants Lancel to endure extra suffering.
That awkward moment when you suddenly realize your husband hasn’t shown up…and that you should have stayed home too.
Kevan and Mace are merely puzzled by the delay in seeing Cersei publicly humiliated. That’s what they came to see, after all.
A shot of the wildfire barrels as the now-wounded Lancel looks up.
A shot as he looks down the hall and realizes what is about to happen, and that he has to crawl down the corridor and blow out the candles to save the city.
That realization that he’s never going to make it in time.
Meanwhile, Margaery has figured out that something is about to happen, and that everyone here needs to get to safety. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have specifics, and the High Sparrow is too high on his own supply to take her seriously.
