TARDISes. TARDISes everywhere.

More from Winter is Coming

Even in the off season of Doctor Who, various incarnations of the TARDIS have been popping up in all sorts of places. Back in January, one opened as a coffee and sandwich stand in Glasgow, Scotland. In April, one was spotted on the set of Class, fueling rumors that the Doctor will be making an appearance on the upcoming spin-off. In June, there was one made of LEGOs in Sydney, Australia and In July, the BBC shared a humorous video featuring actor Ralf Little in the control room. These are but a few of the countless recent appearances of life-size variations of the iconic blue box around the world.

This month, another version of the ubiquitous craft has begun making its way around Hot Springs, Arkansas. The TARDIS tour is a publicity stunt to promote the local Spa-Con, which will take place from September 23rd to the 25th at the Hot Springs Convention Center. The TARDIS will be available there for photo ops. The official unveiling happened on Thursday, August 4th at the Garland County Library. Adam Beck, IT manager for the library, said that not only is it something of a mystery “where the TARDIS will be,” but that it is unknown “what might be inside of it.” According to Bill Solleder, special events manager for Visit Hot Springs, some of those locations may be the Mid-America Science Museum, the Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa, and in downtown Hot Springs during the Bar Trek Spa-Con event.

The Hot Springs TARDIS was designed and built by local craftsman, artist, and Whovian Zack Dryden, and took roughly forty hours to build. To make transport easier, it breaks down into seventeen separate pieces.
