13. Kinvara
I wasn’t a big fan of Melisandre’s Red Priestess look when she arrived in Season 2. It was just so red on red on red. In Season 5, we got a second Red Priestess on screen, and the comparison was striking, especially with the Volantis version sporting armor that looked like dragon scales, and huge bell sleeves.
Then Kinvara arrived in Season 6, along with her preachers. It was a triangulation of these two looks. Kinvara’s gown style was much closer to Melisandre’s, yet it wasn’t so much a traveling dress. At befitting her station as a mid-to-upper level Red Priestess, she wears something closer to what we’ve seen the ruling classes wear, with large metal appliqués down the front, echoing mayoral style chains of old. The more we see of what adherents of this religion wear—the religion, it should be noted, that is on the right side of history—the more I want to them.
