Official Doctor Who/Mr. Men Mashup Book Series Coming Soon
By Leah Tedesco
Sanrio Global Ltd and BBC Worldwide recently announced that the worlds of Doctor Who and Mr. Men will collide in an official book series beginning in spring of 2017.
Time to get doubly nostalgic, kids!
Geeks love mashups of different franchises. Ones combining Doctor Who with Mr. Men and Little Miss (the long-time popular line of children’s books), for example, can be seen in the realm of fan art. Scour the internet and you will find cool examples such as those by Percyfan94, TopNotchy, Mandy Andrie, and Mike’s Star Art. Drawing inspiration from those works, the BBC has decided to team up with Adam Hargreaves to reimagine all of the Doctors as Mr. Men characters for an official series of books published by Penguin Young Readers. Fans may recall that characters from Game of Thrones were given the same treatment back in 2013.
More from Winter is Coming
- For All Mankind finally gives us information in Episode 405, “Goldilocks”
- Watch a stunning VFX breakdown of The Wheel of Time season 2
- Of course Steve Toussaint (Corlys Velaryon) thinks Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen) should rule Westeros
- Confirmed: The Last of Us season 2 will air in 2025
- Final season of Star Trek: Discovery will have “a lot of action, a lot of adventure, a lot of fun”
The books will be released in a bit of a wibbly wobbly timey wimey order, the first four being the First Doctor (Dr. First), the Fourth Doctor (Dr. Fourth), the Eleventh Doctor (Dr. Eleventh), and the Twelfth Doctor (Dr. Twelfth). This batch will be available in the spring of 2017, which is perfectly aligned to coincide with the start of Series Ten of the television program. It is sadly, however, not in time to purchase presents for the 2016 winter holiday season.
The Mr. Men series was originally illustrated by Roger Hargreaves, beginning in 1971. After he died in 1988, his son Adam took over the job.
