Westworld Theory: Could Westworld be a biblical allegory?

In perhaps our wildest Westworld theory yet we discuss whether the show might be a biblical allegory.

SPOILER WARNING: THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A WESTWORLD THEORY THAT MAY OR MAY NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS!

Westworld has many layers, it’s like an onion if instead of making us cry it made us put on a tin foil hat and come up with crazy theories. This might be our craziest theory of all, but hear us out, because we think it might be a good (and super crazy) one.

The basic premise of this Westworld theory is that the show is an allegory for the beginning of the bible, or at least the book of Genesis and its creation story.

We know that Ford believes that he and Bernard are creating life on some level, because he’s said as much. Ford famously told Bernard that “You can’t play God without being acquainted with the devil.”

Certainly the hosts struggling to become more than they are is similar to the story of humankind in the Garden of Eden. Along with that is Dolores, who is starting to see that she wants more, and Teddy, who is probably going to get pulled along by Dolores. So Dolores is our Eve and Teddy is our Adam.

The tree of life might be the maze, as the maze is what will help the hosts become truly free. And who is searching for the maze on a quest to free the hosts, the man in black. The man in black is looking for the maze, using clues that involve a snake, so he’s pretty obviously our devil. What’s really interesting in the story though is that the devil man in black certainly isn’t a benevolent being, but he’s also not truly evil, his intentions in the end might be good.

So that sets up Ford, who wants the hosts to remain ignorant as our old testament creator God. Ford didn’t like seeing one of the hosts covered by an employee in episode 3, but why? Clothing, and being aware of your nakedness, means you understand shame. Seeing Adam and Eve clothed is one of the ways God knows they found the tree of life in Genesis.

Ford also said that mankind had progressed as far as they could, because they no longer had the ability to truly have mistakes in their evolution. So man has become godlike and is creating a new species in his own image?

Finally we have our other wacky Westworld  theory about the park being located underwater. What happens in Genesis after the Garden of Eden story?  The flood… now wouldn’t that be an interesting season 2?
