Peter Capaldi Is Leaving Doctor Who At The End Of The Year

Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year, and we’re just not ready to say goodbye to the 12th Doctor just yet.

Peter Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who after the end of season 10. He announced his departure on the BBC Radio 2 program with Jo Whiley. “An Evening With Peter Capaldi” aired Monday, and Capaldi told listeners, “I feel it’s time to move on.” He said he was asked to stay on after his contract, but felt it best to move on.

Capaldi, just like the rest of us, is having some feelings. He revealed, “I feel sad, I love Doctor Who, it is a fantastic programme to work on.” He went on to say, “I can’t praise the people I work with more highly, but I have always been someone that did a lot of different things.”

Capaldi isn’t the only loss we’re suffering this season. Writer Steven Moffat is also leaving. He praised Capaldi’s performance, in a BBC announcement,  saying, “Peter’s amazing, fiery, turbulent Doctor is still fighting the good fight, and his greatest adventures are yet to come. Monsters of the universe, be on your guard – Capaldi’s not done with you yet!”

You can listen to the interview in it’s entirety on the Jo Whiley show on the BBC Radio 2 here.

Moffat and Capaldi both want to assure fans that he is still the Doctor for now, and this won’t affect the ongoing filming of season 10. He’s still fully committed to the season, and is happy to get to see it thorough until the end.

There’s no word yet who will play the thirteenth Doctor, but as far as we’re concerned, Capaldi is still out guy. When the series debuts in the Spring, it will be a bittersweet reunion for fans knowing this is his last run.
