Jon and company head north of the Wall to capture a wight
So this rag-tag band of adventurers leave Dragonstone together. Where do they go? North!
As for why, we’re going to have to get ahead of ourselves a bit.
Later in the season, Jon will bring a wight south of the Wall and show it to some of the most powerful leaders in Westeros. Why? Well, Jon is gearing up to fight the Night King, his White Walker lieutenants, and a vicious army of zombies. He’s going to need allies — lots of them — if he hopes to survive the wars to come. The problem is that people who have never traveled beyond the Wall have a hard time believing Jon’s story about murderous ice zombies. Remember when Sam’s brother Dickon scoffed at the very idea of White Walkers during that awkward family dinner scene in season 6? Jon has a whole country full of people like that to convince.
So what’s the solution? Head north of the Wall, capture a wight, and bring it back as proof that there really is a problem. A skeptic like Cersei wouldn’t settle for anything less. We’re betting that Daenerys is a little more understanding — she lets Jon leave Dragonstone, after all, and even orders Jorah to go with him. But even she may need more than the word of a stranger with great hair.
So north Jon goes. We hope his trip goes smoothly…
