Doctor Who Rumor: Could a fan theory be on to something?

We’re all counting down until the Doctor faces what is likely to be his final battle, whether that be in the Christmas episode, or sooner.

However, there have been certain points, most recently Missy asking the Doctor if he was alright, that make us wonder if something else is going on.

According to Reddit (via blaster.com) user absolutedisgrace, there may be a theory that connects that and his blindness on “Oxygen”

"When the doctor stopped Missy’s execution, he couldn’t prevent the death due to too many safe guards. It needed to kill a timelord. Instead, he channelled as much as needed to save her, but not enough to die outright either. He has been dying this entire series. He couldn’t restore his eyesight with regeneration energy, because he can’t actually regenerate. He said it was “forever” because he knew he wasn’t regenerating when he ‘dies’ this time. This is why the Doctor has been teaching people this whole series. He genuinely thinks his real end is near. He wants and is trying to change Missy as he believes she is going to have to take his place."

Let’s analyze.

This theory makes a lot of sense. From what we know, he was brought straight to the execution with little time to prepare. When would he make the changes to lessen the energy that much? The only thing he could do without drawing attention was something small…like diverting the energy?

We all thought it was interesting that he didn’t use his regeneration energy to fix his eyesight, but he did show some regeneration energy in The Lie of the Land. Again, it’s unlike Moffat to forget something so memorable, especially when 11 did it to help River, and 12 has used it to help Davros.

I really like that the person included why he’s been teaching so much. That is a very “doctor” thing to do, and adds humanity to him.

My thoughts

In all, I give this theory an B rating. It looks through everything and is solid, except for the fact that he at least showed regeneration energy in Lie of the Land, making it known that it’s at least somewhat possible for him to regenerate, so I don’t think he can’t regenerate at all.

Absolutedisgrace also says “that the Doctor won’t die a permadeath. But in order for this to happen, Missy will redeem herself for her many crimes and sacrifice herself so that the Doctor may live. It’s a nifty theory and poignant as hell”

This part I disagree with. We already had the whole “will he die a full death or not” last regeneration, and I doubt it’s going to be used again. Plus, I don’t know that I believe that Missy will ever actually be good. That erases the idea of the Master for future episodes, and an iconic villain shouldn’t be gone forever.

Personally I’m still thinking it’s the simulation, but I’m a know-it-all.

What do you think of absolutedisgrace’s idea? Is he slowly executing himself, or is there something else at play?
