Game of Thrones Episode 706—”Beyond the Wall”—Preview

It seems like only yesterday Game of Thrones was returning to the airwaves after a year away, and now we’ve reached the penultimate episode of season 7. Where does the time go?

As during the past two weeks, there is no official description for “Beyond the Wall,” tomorrow’s new episode. Of course, the whole thing did leak ahead of time, which is rather better than a description. If you want to talk about that, you can head here. For fans who don’t want to go that far, here’s the official trailer:

“Death is the enemy,” Beric Dondarrion says. “The enemy always wins.” Cheery.

So obviously, this episode will involve a lot of wights and snow and White Walkers. The show has been teasing them for years, so it’s about time they get their due.

Here’s the fact sheet for the hour:

  • Start Time: August 20, 2017, 9 p.m. EST
  • TV Info: HBO
  • Episode: Season 7, Episode 6, “Beyond the Wall”
  • Writers: David Benioff & D. B. Weiss
  • Director: Alan Taylor
  • Run time: 70 minutes
  • Live Stream: Stream 1 – Stream 2

This mark’s Alan Taylor’s return to Game of Thrones after a four-year break — the last episode he directed was “Valar Morghulis,” the season 2 finale. That also had a major scene involving the army of the dead, incidentally. What a way to come back!

At 70 minutes, “Beyond the Wall” will also be the longest episode in Game of Thrones history. What will they do with all that time? Before we find out tomorrow, take a look at some of the official images HBO has released:

We’ve got a couple of shots at Winterfell, where Sansa is looking alternately pensive and thoughtful.

Meanwhile, over at Dragonstone, Daenerys and Tyrion chat near a fire:

And later, Drogon’s brothers finally get in on the play:

Meep. (Also, kudos to Dany for the new Ice Princess outfit.)

But most of the shots are dedicated to members of Jon Snow’s SEAL Team 6, the lot of whom have gone beyond the Wall to wrangle themselves a wight:

What will become of our heroes? Go beyond the Wall with the lot of them tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. EST. We’ll be updating the site with reactions and analysis as the episode goes on.
