Westworld: What Fans Can Expect To See In The Season 2 Premiere

The highly anticipated second season of Westworld is on the way, but what can fans expect from the premiere episode?

Westworld Season 2 will premiere this year, but we still know very little about the plot of the first episode. The trailer released at SDCC 2017 gave us a lot of insight on the show’s sophomore season. But, there are sure to be a few curveballs thrown in. Thankfully, we have seen enough to piece together a general idea of what to expect when the show returns in the spring.

Without further ado, lets look at what fans can expect to see from Westworld’s Season 2 premiere episode.

What Can Fans Expect From Westworld Season 2, Episode 1: “Journey Into Night”

  • The Continuation Of Ford’s Narrative

At the end of the Season 1, Episode 10, the park was thrown into chaos. Dolores shot Dr. Ford in the head, and an army of hosts had descended on the Delos board members. Shortly after the finale, the show’s co-creator, Jonathon Nolan, said the following about Season 2:

"“Ford has set in motion what he thinks is a plan, that nature of that plan is something we explore in the second season, what his intentions are. Is it to let the hosts escape? Is it to teach humans a lesson?”"

The trailer from SDCC showed a fraction of the finale’s aftermath, which included copious amounts of violence. It’s fair to say that we’ve only seen a small portion of Ford’s narrative, but we can be sure the consequences will shake Westworld to its core.

  • There Will Be A Time Jump

The premiere episode, titled ‘Journey Into Night’, will likely set the stage for the shape of things to come. This will mostly consist of the fallout from the finale, and the introduction of new plot threads. We know that the show won’t pick up right where Season 1 left off, and, instead, will institute a time jump. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Westworld’s creators had this to say regarding Season 2:

"“You’re definitely going to see the aftermath and the effects of what happened. We are definitely not picking up right where we left off.”"

It’s unclear exactly where the show will pick up, but based on the trailer, it’s likely shortly after the finale. We also aren’t sure if they will utilize a single timeline, or if Season 2 will follow a similar style as the first season.

  • Chaos Will Reign In The Park

Based on the trailer from SDCC, it looks like we will see the fallout from Dolores and the hosts actions. We can expect plenty of death, chaos and hosts taking revenge on humans, but we don’t know their endgame. However, thanks to Jonathon Nolan, we know that chaos will be the theme of Season 2:

"“If the first season was defined by control, the second season is defined by chaos, that’s what Ford has been planning all along.”"

There was plenty of chaos in the Season 2 trailer, and that was only our first look. It’s worth noting that all the footage from the trailer was from the first episode. That being said, fans are in for an action-packed premiere.

  • Exploring Maeve And Dolores’ Evolution

At the end of Westworld Season 1, Maeve, Bernard and Dolores were on the brink of consciousness. Whether they achieved consciousness is still up for debate, but it’s likley that we’ll see more hosts follow suit in Season 2. If Season 2 premiere follows Dolores and Maeve  – as the trailer suggests – then we will learn more about their new-found freedom. At the very least, we can expect more insight into their motives.

Westworld Season 2 will premiere Spring 2018.
