Gustaf Skarsgård is best known for his role as Floki on Vikings, but what will his role be in Westworld Season 2?

Several new characters will be introduced in Westworld Season 2 and we couldn’t be more excited. HBO is bringing in a bunch of new actors to fill these roles, including some familiar faces. Hiroyuki Sanada (Helix, Lost) and Jonathan Tucker (Justified, American Gods) will make their debut in Season. But, fans of the TV show Vikings are overjoyed that Floki himself, Gustaf Skarsgard, will star in Westworld’s second season.

Based on the description released by Deadline, Skarsgard will play Karl Strand, a white-collar guy comfortable in the field. What does that mean exactly? Thanks to an older interview done by Skarsgard, we have a few ideas of what his role could be. Let’s look at what Skarsgard said about his role in Westworld and what it means for Season 2.

Gustaf Skarsgård Comments On His Character And Working On Westworld Season 2

While talking with Interview Magazine, Gustaf Skarsgard talked about his career and how excited he is to be a part of the second season of Westworld. While discussing Westworld Season 2, Skarsgard said the following about Karl Strand:

"“I’m kept on a need-to-know basis, but he is man with a military background, who you call in to solve shit, get shit done.”"

Skarsgard continued and talked about his first day of shooting on Westworld’s sophomore season:

"“It was a long, three-and-a-half-minute walk and talk scene. And the first shot was a steady camera shot covering the whole scene, which means you can’t mess anything up. So, you must be on point to carry the whole scene through, and I was driving the scene as well. I don’t think I’ve ever been that professionally tested before. It was survival mode, but also very exhilarating and exciting to be that challenged. I’m on this set that I’m a fan of, acting with people that I love to watch on television, and I have to carry this fucking scene, it’s on my shoulders, and I’m surviving.”"

By all accounts, it sounds like Skarsgard is as thrilled that he got the opportunity to work on Westworld Season 2. Thanks to his comments about Karl Strand, we have a good idea of what his role could be in Season 2.

What Will Karl Strands Role Be Westworld Season 2?

The creators and cast of Westworld have said that chaos will be the overarching theme of Season 2. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be people trying to restore order. Although Skarsgard is known for playing an eccentric trickster, it appears he might not be one in Westworld. Based on the description of Karl Strand, it’s possible he might be a Delos employee.

Specifically, he could be part of the tactical team dispatched in the park. That may sound like a leap, but he could be part of a tactical support team or logistics for Delos. Since the hosts are on a rampage, it would make sense that Delos would dispatch teams to combat them. In fact, the trailer released at SDCC showed Delos security teams riding through the park in buggies.

The comments Skarsgard made about Strand having a military background lend credence to this theory. However, we won’t know for sure until Season 2 premieres. Nevertheless, we are glad Skarsgard is has joined the cast and we can’t wait to see him on Westworld. We still have a few months until Westworld Season 2 drops. Until then, we will continue to speculate on anything and everything Westworld.

Westworld Season 2 will premiere Spring 2018.
