Over the past month and change, the Game of Thrones production has been slowly working on the Winterfell set at Moneyglass, Northern Ireland. The set has always been there, but it got an overhaul this year, with the crewing building crenellations and towers that were previously added in with CGI. Now, with filming well underway, we have a shot of the set in the thrall of production to entertain you before you head home for the day.
This shot comes to us courtesy of Twitter’s own @SGuckin, who posted it earlier today. Take a look:
Notice that the one crane is holding a lighting apparatus directly over the inner part of the set, the better to light up the actors below. Overcast sky or no, this scene will be bright. I also like seeing the clear divide between the actual earth and the fake snow line near the castle wall — it looks like the wind is billowing the fake snow about somewhat.
We don’t know what scene is being filmed beyond those walls. We suspect that the crew went to the trouble of building the towers and crenellations mentioned earlier because it knew that, this year, the Winterfell set will have to sustain damage from some kind of battle. So worst case scenario: our favorite characters are in there being attacked by White Walkers as we speak. It had to happen sooner or later.
