Season 8 filming: A new figure appears on the massive King’s Landing set

Filming on Game of Thrones’ eighth season continues apace, and so do intrepid photographers capturing images of the set. Yesterday, a new shot of the Winterfell set emerged. Today, we have a couple new images of that massive King’s Landing set being built at Titanic Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland. SPOILERS follow.

By the looks of it, the King’s Landing set is still under construction, and it has a new occupant:

Who is the green-clad figure is atop the walls of King’s Landing? As you can see below, in a different photo, he’s a permanent fixture of the set:

"Picture I took of a set being constructed for an upcoming episode of Game of Thrones, just across from the Main Studio for filming. That "construction worker" up there on the ramparts is just a dummy lol. More pictures if anyone’s interested. from freefolk"

So it’s some sort of dummy — it looks like a guy in a hard hat and safety coat. It reminds us a little of the time HBO put a White Walker dummy on the set of King’s Landing during filming for season 6, when the production was shooting in Girona, Spain:

In that instance, the dummy was put there to throw would-be spoiler hounds off the scent, or as a joke — obviously White Walkers didn’t make it to King’s Landing in season 6. The season 8 dummy could serve a similar purpose, although it’s less obvious what kind — how is the presence of a construction worker going to mislead anyone?

Bedecked in green as it is, it’s possible that the dummy will be used in some kind of special effects shot. Perhaps he’s standing in for a soldier manning the ramparts who gets set on fire? We know King’s Landing could be in danger of a dragon attack sometime in season 8…

On the other hand, when doing that kind of thing, the show usually just sets stunt people on fire using practical effects. But if the flames are blue, perhaps because they’re breathed by a zombie dragon, it could necessitate a more elaborate set-up. Or he’s just up there to give the actors on the ground an idea of where to look. We could be overthinking this.

Another note about the above picture: look at the hole in middle of the wall. Does that look like the set is still under construction, or is it purposefully made to look like someone’s blown a hole in the city’s defenses? And if so, who did it?
