Could Westworld Season 2 Premiere Earlier Than Fans Expected?
Now that Westworld Season 2 has wrapped filming, could the show premiere earlier than fans expected?
The Westworld Season 1 finale aired over a year ago, which left fans craving to see more from the series. Unfortunately, the show’s next installment has been slow coming. But, recently, we’ve gotten several updates regarding the status of Season 2. Westworld’s cast and crew have taken to social media in the last few weeks, which caused fans to speculate about when the show would premiere.
Given the most recent updates from the cast and crew, it appears that Westworld Season 2 could premiere a lot sooner than we once thought. Before we get into when the show could premiere, let’s look at all the information we’ve gathered about Westworld Season 2’s premiere date. Let’s start with a tweet from Evan Rachel Wood from July of last year.

Evan Rachel Wood Takes To Twitter To Tell Fans When Westworld Season 2 Will Premiere And Causes Massive Speculation
[Credit: HBO]Back in July of 2017, Evan Rachel Wood was asked by a fan on Twitter about Westworld Season 2’s premiere date. In a very short reply, Wood simply gave the fan a general time-frame they could expect the new season:
This confirmation caused fans to sigh with relief, and finally gave us something to look forward to. Sadly, that relief was short lived, mostly because of how vague the time frame was. Sure, spring 2018 confirmed that Westworld Season 2 was on the way, but fans wanted a more specific date. This led to massive speculation from online communities. However, it was hard for people to agree on a month, let alone a specific day.
Since Game of Thrones’ final season isn’t premiering until 2019, many people thought Westworld would fill that slot. Unfortunately, unlike other networks, HBO doesn’t stick to normal release schedules. For the most part, many people expected Westworld Season 2 to roll into the summer months with a May release date. Some believed that it could also come back in late April, but no one knew for sure.
Jeffrey Wright Instagram Typo Hints That Westworld Season 2 Would Premiere In April
Recently, Jeffrey Wright caused an uproar, when he accidentally hinted that the show was making its return in April. In an Instagram post, Wright wrote the following about the status of Westworld Season 2:
"“I’ve spent so much time inside #Westworld these past 6 months this feels like a self-portrait. 3 days of filming left, and then we’re circling back online in April….hard. #Trip Thanks”"
Many believed this post confirmed the show was coming back in April; however, that might not be the case. Shortly after outlets began reporting on Wright’s post, the actor changed the word “April” to “Spring”. So, was this just a slip up, or is the show really premiering in April? This question vexed fans, but less than a week later, major news broke regarding Westworld Season 2 that thrilled fans.
The Cast Of Westworld Wraps Filming On Season 2
Over the last 2 weeks, the cast began announcing that they had wrapped filming on Westworld’s second season. Evan Rachel Wood led the pack and took to Instagram to share that she had finished the last day of a grueling 6-month shooting schedule:

A day later, Jeffrey Wright also confirmed that he had wrapped filming. In a short Instagram post, Wright simply said, “Wrap That”, to commemorate his work on Westworld Season 2:
The lovely and talented Thandie Newton was the next to follow suit. In an artfully worded Instagram post, Newton said the following regarding her work on the show:
"Guess who just wrapped #Westworld Season 2!Exhausted but so f*****g grateful for the ride of my life. And the love I feel for my #Westworld tribe has no limits. We proved that to each other every day. Blessed. And soon we get to share it with whoever tunes in”"
Given Wood, Wright and Wood’s roles on Westworld, it certainly seemed like the show was nearing the end of filming. This would be confirmed a few days later, when the crew of Westworld reported that they had finished filming Season 2.
The Crew Of Westworld Confirms That They’ve Wrapped Filming On Season 2
On January 18th, members of the Westworld crew took to their social media accounts to share that they’ve finished filming on Season 2. The first major post came from a videographer by the name of Obi Ariguzo. In a short post, Ariguzo said the following about his work on Season 2:

"“That’s a wrap on my first show in a new city. Very proud of the work we did and our crew/cast. Its been a surreal experience. Excited for everyone to see the epic next chapter our showrunners put together!”"
Ariguzo’s post was extremely exciting, but he wasn’t the only person to confirm that filming on Season 2 had finished. The wonderful VFX team also shared a post on Instagram, which helped make Season 2 seem like it was really on the way. Visual effects artist Bruce Branit took to Instagram, and shared how excited he was for fans to see the amazing work the cast and crew did on Season 2:
"“That’s a wrap. Season 2 on Westworld! And the best VFX team ever. Thank you to [tagged VFX team]. And to Jonah and Lisa for letting us be a part of this incredible story. It is going to blow everyone’s minds!”"
Based on the posts from the cast and crew, it seems that Westworld Season 2 is currently in post-production. What does that mean? Well, it’s likely that Westworld’s sophomore season could premiere much sooner than fans previously thought.
Westworld Season 2 Could Premiere Earlier Than Fans Originally Thought
The original tweet from Evan Rachel Wood gave us a 3-month window of when Westworld could return. This year, spring starts on March 20th and ends on June 21st. That’s a big window, but here’s how we can narrow down the date. First off, since the show is premiering in the spring rather than the summer, it seems like they want to secure nominations for the 2018 Emmys.
Westworld Season 2 will be ten episodes long. The show must air a majority of its episodes before May 31 to qualify for the 2018 Emmys. To qualify, Westworld must air at least 6 episodes which usually air on Sundays. To do that, the latest date the show would premiere is April 22nd .However, now that we know the show is in post-production, it’s likely they are trying to get more than 6 episodes before the deadline.
This pushes up the premiere date anywhere from late March 25th to April 15th. If we choose to believe Jeffrey Wright’s Instagram slip up, we can scratch off the Sunday in March. That leaves us with three possible dates: April 1st, April 8th and April 15th. Of course, we want the show to premiere earlier rather than later, but it could be any of these 3 dates.
While it’s not absolute confirmation, our best guesses are still weeks earlier than most fans previously thought. We still have a few months until Westworld Season 2 drops. Until then, we will continue to speculate on anything and everything Westworld.
