Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington are in Iceland

Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) are in Iceland, long a location favored by the Game of Thrones for certain purposes. Read on for details.

The news first broke thanks to a Facebook post from a fan:

That was followed up with a Twitter post:

You gotta wonder what didn’t impress her, but that’s neither here nor there.

Finally, a photo surfaced:

All that and there’s Game of Thrones hair stylist in the area, too. We’ve known that the show would be returning to Iceland for a while, although we didn’t know which cast members would be involved. So far as cast members go, Clarke and Harington are as big as it gets.

UPDATE: Here’s another picture of the pair, who are officially the internet’s cutest thing:

What are they filming there? We can’t know for sure, but the area has traditionally stood in for the lands beyond the Wall. It’s where Jon met Ygritte back in season 2, where the wildlings marched south in season 3, and where Jon and his band of merry men hunted a wight in season 7. The odds are good that Iceland will once again stand in for the far north, although with the White Walkers having moved south, it’s possible that they’ve brought a ton of snow with them, and that Iceland could now stand in for the normal North. Either way, when you want snow and ice, it’s hard to beat this scenery:

If Iceland is standing in for the lands beyond the Wall, what are Jon and Dany doing there? After all, the White Walkers have moved south. What reason is there to travel to where they used to be? Whatever they’re doing, they’ll probably get through it fairly quickly, as Icelandic outlet Vísir previously reported that the production will be there for only “a few days.”
