A Hidden Code In Westworld Season 2 Trailer Reveals New Character

The new Westworld Season 2trailer dropped during the Super Bowl and everyone went crazy. But a hidden code revealed the introduction of James Delos (Peter Mullan) — the founder of Delos Incorporated.

Last Sunday, Westworld fans were treated to the season 2 trailer. It was full of sorts of eye-popping scenes. Yet, hidden between all those images was a little secret code. And if you blinked, you may have missed it. Even if you saw it, you still might not have known what it was. But the hidden code (when decoded) leads to the Delos Destinations website where there are 6 different placeholders mentioning other parks: Westworld, a twisted picture of Samurai World and 4 blank screens. But the site also mysteriously introduces the founder of Delos Incorporated: James Delos played by Peter Mullan.

By now, you have probably discovered the new website and the other version of the trailer. This other version shows a bloody Maeve (Thandie Newton) and a quick glimpse of James Delos cutting his face. According to EW, Peter Mullan (Ozark) has been cast in the role of the Delos founder.

A dark cloud of mystery hovers over the James Delos character. However, the Delos Destinations website does provide some clues as to how he will fit into the story of Westworld. In the “About” section of the site, the page explains Delos Destinations:

"A subsidiary of Delos Incorporated, Delos Destinations employs our award-winning biotech to create authentic, unforgettable experiences that redefine the art of simulation. In a world that’s become inundated by the virtual, escape the screen and take hold of a freedom you can physically touch. It’s a feeling that will challenge your idea of reality—and as our friends here like to say, if you can’t tell the difference, does it matter?"

The line if you can’t tell the difference, does it matter? is exactly what Angela (Talulah Riley) tells William when he first arrives to the park. It sets the tone of what one experiences in the park will change their lives. As we watched William morph into the Man in Black.

But over on the the “Investors” page, we learn little more about James Delos and his ideas:

"Decades ago, a man had an idea as old as human ambition itself, that the only limit to progress is imagination. The ability to see a better world. Delos Inc. was formed from that goal and nothing else, because James had nothing else. He used to joke that where he grew up, having dreams was like fighting gravity. But he never lost faith that his dream could take off, and now Delos is more than a name. It’s a legacy."

Again there’s another connection between the Man in Black and the James Delos. Both are men who wanted to achieve goals beyond their limitations. The Man in Black realized there was more to the hosts than the confines of Westworld. This set him on his quest to solve the riddle of the maze. He soon realized at the end of season 1 that the hosts were capable of becoming sentient.

Next: Find out about the 6 other Delos parks

It seems there will be a story brewing between these two characters in season 2. In season 1, Logan explained that his family, Delos, was one of major investors in the park, and that the park was losing money. Later on in the show, the Man in Black become one of the stakeholders in the company.  It will be curious to see if the Man in Black and James Delos will be friends or enemies as the story unravels in season 2.

We still have a few months until Westworld Season 2 drops. Until then, we will continue to speculate on anything and everything Westworld.
