Everything You Need To Know About Hiroyuki Sanda
Hiroyuki Sanada has been acting for over 50 years and is best known for his roles in Lost, Helix, Sunshine, Sunshine, 47 Ronin and The Wolverine. Sanada has incredible range and an on-screen gravitas that gives him a commanding presence. He’s usually relegated to supporting roles; however, he has the ability to steal every scene.
He was born in Tokyo in the 1960’s and began acting when he was 6-years-old. By the age of 11, he was already training with famous martial artist Sony Chiba. Sanada became efficient in both Kempo and Kyokushin kaikan karate. By the time he was a teenager, Sanada became Chiba’s protégé. He is long-time friends (and has starred in films) with both Michelle Yeoh and Jackie Chan.
Sanada performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in a production of King Lear. He would later receive an honorary MBE for his work. He continues to perform in American and Japanese films. In the upcoming season of Westworld, he will be welcomed to the cast and bring life to the highly anticipated debut of Samurai World.
