Who was creeped-out by the menacing looking white host standing behind Bernard in the newest trailer? What role could these drone hosts play in Westworld Season 2?

Just a few months ago, fans of Westworld were shown a teaser image for season 2. Peering over Bernard’s shoulder was a creepy-looking  white host. Then we saw the host smash a Delos employee into some lab equipment during the recent trailer. In a recent interview with EW, Jonathan Nolan gave a name to these faceless hosts: drone hosts.

Delos is full of secrets, and these hosts are just one of many within the park. So what role will these hosts play in Westworld Season 2?

What’s Up With These New Drone Hosts?

If you thought the uncanny valley of the hosts in Westworld Season 1 bothered you, imagine the hulking drone hosts walking around Sweetwater. But these hosts aren’t the only new things hiding in the park. According to recent interview in EW, Jonathan Nolan gives us a little more insight as to what we will see in season 2:

"The drone hosts relate to the corporation’s secret project which is hidden in plain sight in this park,” Nolan says. “As we talked about in the pilot, the park is one thing for the guests, and it’s another thing for its shareholders and management — something completely different. We’ve used the Google analogy — for consumers, it’s for search and email, yet for the company, it’s for advertising. There is an agenda here that Delos has undertaken for a very long time. As Bernard is making his way through the wreckage of the fallout from the first season, he’s discovering things about the park that even he doesn’t know and coming upon creatures like the drone host."

It appears Westworld is not only a playground for the guests, but a laboratory for Delos to muck around with some new experiments. It looks like Bernard (Jeffrey Wright), a host himself, is going to stumble upon these mysterious robots. But what will he do with them?

They may play a role with all the chaos that is happening in Westworld. Maeve (Thandie

Newton) and Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) are taking down the guests and Delos employees by storm. Therefore, Delos needs to come in and restore order back to the park. Betty Gabriel will be one of the new characters that will be part of the plan in season 2. Also Jonathan Tucker will be part of the military sent in to quell the uprising hosts.

This is where the drone hosts may come into play. However, if the hosts want to protect themselves, they may plan on using the drones. Just like pawns in a game of chess, the drone hosts will be perfect to send into battle. Therefore, we may just see a an epic Game of Thrones-like battle between the hosts and the humans.

The first season may have been about order, but season 2 will bring the chaos with a possible army of drone hosts. However, we just have to wait and see who the victor will be after the battle ends.
