Fans who attended SXSW 2018 were fortunate enough to see the first look at Shogunworld in Westworld Season 2 – which included… Maeve?
Westworld Season 2 is quickly approaching, and new details are popping up every day. Between the Entertainment Weekly coverage and SXSW 2018, we have a much better idea of what to expect in Season 2. We know we the new season will be darker, and that all hell has broken loose in the park. But, we also know that Westworld Season 2 will venture outside of the park for the first time – beyond Delos headquarters of course. Specifically, they will visit the second Delos park named Shogunworld.
The show teased the new park at the end of Westworld Season 1, but until recently, we knew very little about it. In fact, we didn’t even know what It was called until early March. Now we have a name, plus we know several actors have been cast as Shogunworld hosts. On top of that, HBO premiered the first footage of the new park at SXSW 2018 – which included a surprise guest walking through Shogunworld.

HBO showed the first footage of Shogunworld at SXSW 2018
During the
Westworld
panel at SXSW 2018, we learned a lot about Season 2. However, the footage shown was a highlight of the panel. Unfortunately, the footage was not made available to the public. Sure, we can’t show you the trailer, but we can tell you some of the best parts. We’ll get to the first half of the trailer in later posts, but for now, let’s dig into the Shogunworld footage.
Towards the end of the footage, we saw a massive battle between two opposing samurai forces. Westworld newcomer Hiroyuki Sanada led the charge in full samurai regalia as the armies smashed into each other. While Musashi and the other hosts battled, the camera panned to reveal a familiar face. That’s right, Maeve was walking headlong into the battle wearing a kimono. She showed no sense of urgency and looked as cool as a cucumber.
The cinematography was gorgeous, and as you would suspect, Shogunworld looks incredible. We hope that HBO will release the footage soon, but for now, it is currently unavailable. We will continue to break down and give you all the latest updates we learned from SXSW 2018.
Next: What does Shogunworld’s name reveal about the other parks?
We still have a few months until Westworld Season 2 drops. Until then, we will continue to speculate on anything and everything Westworld.
Westworld Season 2 will premiere on HBO Sunday, April 22, 2018 9PM/EST
