Filming on Game of Thrones season 8 continues at Magheramorne Quarry in Northern Ireland, as does the stream of video and images from the set. These new pictures, which come courtesy of Redditor WatchersOnMyBalls (pause for contemplation) are the most intense yet. This fan has gotten up close and personal with many of the props, by which I mean piles and piles of corpses. You can check them out below, but beware SPOILERS.

A little background: at the moment, the production is filming a major battle scene at this site, where it’s erected a giant green screen. We’ve seen lots of different armies parading around in front of it, including  an Unsullied armya Dothraki army, a Northern army, and the army of the dead. It’s all hands on deck for the White Walkers’ invasion of Westeros.

Accordingly, the ground is littered with prop corpses. Scroll through the images below, and then we’ll hit some highlights.

First of all, let’s pin down that these images really are coming out of Magheramorne Quarry. Viewed from afar, across the bay, the green screen set looks like this (photo from GoTlike Locations):

There are a couple of reverse images among the new collection, like this one:

As for the images themselves, there’s a lot to pick through. Notice the number of different sigils on the shields and armor of the dead. I see the sigils for House Arryn, House Karstark (come through, Alys Karstark), House Mormont and, most surprisingly, House Greyjoy:

It’s hard to picture Euron volunteering to help in the fight against the dead, but I suppose it could happen. Either that, or by the time this battle happens, Euron has been taken care of and Theon and/or Yara are leading the Ironborn.

Are these corpses supposed to be wights, or human combatants fried to a crisp by dragon fire?

The production has made many discrete corpses for this occasion, but it’s also made these…corpse blobs, which I imagine will be placed on the ground and dusted with snow. In the thick of battle, they’ll look like individual bodies piled on top of each other.

Also, poor dead horsies:

Okay. So. DEATH.

You can see more images above, on the Freefolk Reddit, or on imgur. What do you guys make of this stuff?

Is everyone still here? Okay, there’s a bit more to this. In addition to the images, WatchersOnMyBalls dropped some SPOILER knowledge on the good people of the Freefolk reddit. Unlike the pictures, it’s impossible to verify any of this (“I was not able to get close enough to take pic”), but given that this Redditor brought us all these images, I think they deserve to be heard out, at least.

But be warned: if true, these are megaton SPOILERS beyond anything you’ve seen above. Here’s your last chance to back out.

Okay. Here’s what WatchersOnMyBalls claims is going down:

  • The claim: “Jamie Lannister will die in Brienne arms.” Any independent support? It’s been reported that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gwendoline Christie are on set at Magheramorne Quarry and that Jaime and Brienne fight the army of the dead together.
  • The claim: “Melisandre fights the Nights King by herself and holds her own but does not win. She does have the power to turn the dead against him.” Any independent support? I kinda-sorta think you can see Melisandre in one of the images from the set, but it’s too fuzzy and far away to be sure. Carice van Houten has reportedly been in Belfast lately, near Magheramorne Quarry.

Again, I caution against believing anything without solid proof, but it’s definitely fun to think about. Thanks to WatchersOnMyBalls for getting these images.
