The huge King’s Landing set at Titanic Studios nears completion

HBO has been building a massive King’s Landing set at Titanic Studios in Belfast for nearly half a year now. As we’ve watched the production film elaborate sequences at Moneyglass and in Magheramorne Quarry, it’s easy to forget that the best is yet to come, because given how long it’s been working on the King’s Landing set, when filming does start there, it’s going to be spectacular. And according to the latest images and testimonials, it’s going to start soon.

Security has been heightened in the area as well, although obviously there’s no keeping prying eyes away completely on a set this big.

One of the most prominent features of the set is a pair of towers on either side of a gate. Or rather, it’s a gate not. Over the past five or so weeks, we’ve watched the space between the towers go from a giant hole in the wall…

…and now to a finished wall:

The detail on the stonework almost makes it a shame that this wall will almost undoubtedly be blown apart at some point during season 8, probably by dragonfire. Maybe.

You can also see a large green screen in the above photo. The production has been setting that thing up for a couple of weeks, and while it’s not nearly as big as the green screen at Magheramorne Quarry, it’s more than big enough to pique our interest.

Filming on the final season of Game of Thrones runs through the end of June. There are wonders yet to see.
