Season 8 filming: Green screens in King’s Landing and a return to Magheramorne
By Dan Selcke
Another day, another set of images from the Game of Thrones set. Yes, the series wrap party is around the corner, but you wouldn’t know it to look at what’s going down on the King’s Landing set in Belfast. At the moment, the watchwords are “smoke” and “fire.”
The action sequence they’re filming at the moment will involve hundreds of extras, likely the citizens of King’s Landing fleeing whatever is doing this to their home.
Let’s focus on the guard tower on the right of the image above for a second. There was a time when it stood tall, proud and unblemished:
Now, the window has been blacked out as though a fire has been raging on the inside, and the worst may be yet to come; the ever-vigilant A Red Priestess has snapped an image of the crew plastering a green screen to the side of the tower:
I expect that the side of the tower will be so blasted to hell that it will require special effects to convey. As always, pray for King’s Landing.
In other news, the crew has started to load back into Magheramorne Quarry, where it spent weeks earlier in the year filming a major battle scene against the undead in front of the biggest green screen we’ve ever seen. Now, thanks to GoTlike Locations, we know that the telltale pink ‘GoT’ signs have appeared again:
If I had to guess, I’d say the crew is here to pick up coverage they missed during their earlier shoot, or to get footage they only realized they needed after going through what they already had. I’m not expecting a new sequence, but we’ll be keeping out eye on the place to make sure.
