Scenes from the Game of Thrones series wrap party
By Dan Selcke
Last night, the cast and crew of Game of Thrones attended a series wrap party in Belfast (for real this time). Let’s look at some images and video from the event, possibly as we weep silently into our cupped hands.
Maisie Williams arrives with her boyfriend.
Above, there’s Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm) and Hannah Murray (Gilly). Below, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss show up for the celebration:
Next up, we can spot Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), Ben Crompton (Dolorous Edd) and John Bradley (Samwell Tarly):
And Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) were there:
No party is a party without Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont):
Kerry Ingram (Shireen) and Brenock O’Connor (Olly):
"Shireen and Olly at last night’s wrap party from freefolk"
A Red Priestess, who took these pictures, also said she saw Daniel Portman (Podrick Payne) and Rory McCann (the Hound). And of course, the hair man himself was there, as well.
A Red Priestess didn’t get a photo of Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), but she clued reporters in as to how she expected the night to go down:
Mr. Alcohol, always there when you need him.
The red carpet for the event was quite elaborate, and by “elaborate,” we mean dudes in black vests and kilts on drums:
Let’s head inside the party, which was bathed in psychedelic purple light, perfect for remembrances:
Northern Irish rock band Snow Patrol was there for entertainment. Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol famously sung “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” in season 3.
This next video, of partygoers drunkenly singing the Game of Thrones theme song as the DJ spins it, may be the highlight of the post. It is, as the kids say, “a mood.”
A cool dragon head prop:
Eventually, Benioff and Weiss stepped on stage to give everyone a well-deserved round of applause. Here’s Weiss on the virtues of the hair and makeup department:
Then, David Benioff extolled the virtues of alcohol and throwing some playful shade at Downton Abbey.
Hey, you have no idea how hard Maggie Smith can party.
Dan Weiss signed off with a touching message about how much he and Benioff have enjoyed working with the cast and crew:
“We hope you loved making this show as much as we did, and we hope you loved making it with each other as much as we enjoyed making it with…” And then the video cuts out. He could have said anything — there’s just no way of knowing — but the last word was probably “you.”
And finally, as the sun rose over the city, Nathalie Emmanuel left a heartfelt message on Instagram:
The cast and crew aren’t actually 100% finished with filming. For one thing, Kit Harington said he would cut his hair short when he was done, and it’s still long. A Red Priestess has it that a couple of cast members will keep shooting through this week. But it’s pretty much over. A salute to everyone involved in this show. We’ve loved watching it as much as you’ve loved making it.
