After the success of classic Doctor Who on the digital video platform, Twitch begins an ongoing marathon of the popular spin-off Torchwood, starting today!

Looking for an easy way to catch up on Torchwood? Are you a long-term fan of the series eager for a re-watch? Or have you yet to watch the Doctor Who spin-off for the first time?

Whichever reason, we’ve got good news for you. Starting today, at 6pm UK time, and 10am PDT, the digital video platform Twitch is hosting a Torchwood marathon.

More from Winter is Coming

Every Sunday, an entire series of the show will be broadcast. So today sees the whole of Series One broadcast. July 22nd see Series Two, with Children of Earth on July 29th and Miracle Day on August 5th.

This makes a lot of sense, as Twitch has been having a great deal of success with the Classic Doctor Who marathon. We’ve been enjoying that at Doctor Who Watch for the past couple of months. We hope you have been too. .

With the largest collection of Classic Doctor Who episodes streaming for free, it’s been a great opportunity for New Series fans to finally check out more of the show’s history.

The same, I imagine, will be true for Torchwood. While certainly not half as old as Doctor Who, it’s still a series that’s now over a decade old. More importantly, it’s been over six years since the broadcast of the last series, Miracle Day.

And while the brand has continued to have success with Aliens Among Us, officially the fifth series of Torchwood, audio generally seems to reach a smaller audience than with television.

A spin-off that got better

So for many fans, this will be a chance to catch up on one of Doctor Who’s most popular spin-offs and see what all the fuss is all about. My advice for all of those new fans? Stick with it. Honestly, Series One got off to a rough start.

(Especially with Cyberwoman. Possibly one of the worst stories in the history of anything related to Doctor Who. Certainly one of the most disappointing, considering how great a mature take on the Cybermen can be.)

But the final few episodes from that same series are fantastic. And they’re so very different, too.

Out of Time is a wonderfully intimate piece of drama. By contrast, Combat is a great, gritty take on the Whoniverse from Mickey Smith himself, Noel Clarke. Captain Jack Harkness is an absolutely beautiful episode, that also builds up towards the epic finale End of Days brilliantly.

And with Series Two, the series gets even better. So many strong episodes from that series, perhaps too many for me to recommend.

But, while Cyberwoman was a terrible example of writing from Chris Chibnall, he more than redeemed himself with Exit Wounds. Frankly, that’s an amazing piece of drama, and everything Cyberwoman wasn’t. If we could get more of that in his own take on Doctor Who, we’ll have a lot to forward to. Starting today, you can see why the spin-off continues to be so popular, too.
