Westworld-esque ghost town sells for $1 million!

A Westworld ghost town? Say what?!
Yes, that’s right, there is a ghost town that looks very similar to the landscape of Westworld and it just sold for $1 million to a group of Los Angeles investors. The investors want to use this land to do photoshoots and festivals–cough, Westworld-themed, cough. Imagine a Westworld festival? How cool would that be?!
The abandoned mining town known as Cerro Gerdo is located in Lone Pine, California and covers nearly 300 acres of land. There are many historic buildings located there, some of which are in the process of being restored. As the reporting article from Business Insider puts it “the ghost town perfectly captures the essence of the Wild Wild West, frozen in time.”
The goal is to turn this land into a premier destination but Westworld fans wouldn’t mind an immersive experience, would we? Looking at pictures of this quiet, sort of creepy town it makes us wonder if it was ever used for inspiration in the series.
The town of Cerro Gordo used to be the largest producer of lead and silver in California, according to BI and was the catalyst in improving the economic growth of the state. If you love history and the series–this is the place for you.
This place just screams Westworld, doesn’ it? And where it gets more interesting is that the town of Cerro Gordo was quite the violent place back in the day with about one murder a week occurring. This can’t be said enough of but serious Westworld vibes right now.

After the price of silver tanked and a fire ravaged the town, the mine was abandoned circa the 1880s. Business resumed again in 1905, but after twenty years it was abandoned once again.
If you’re interested in getting a tour, those will continue to be offered until projects officially begin on the property.
