Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has added dragons to its popular mobile game, Game of Thrones: Conquest. The dragon update went live on Wednesday, October 24 (the first anniversary of the game’s release). Players can now build a dragonpit at their home base. Once they’ve done that, they’ll get a dragon egg for free. Feed it, hatch it, train it, and it’s ready to obliterate your enemies.

Game of Thrones fans around the world know the impact dragons have on the balance of power in Westeros,” said Jeff Peters, vice president of global licensing at HBO. “We’re looking forward to seeing the same dynamic play out inside the world of Game Of Thrones: Conquest when players can add a fire-breathing friend to their armies.”

Since its launch in October of 2017, Conquest has spent more than 25 weeks in iTunes’ top 50 grossing iOS apps, even becoming the #1 free-to-play strategy game on the US at one point. According to Venture Beat, across 200 in-game kingdoms, there are currently 400,000 allegiances (alliances of 130 players or more), so people are still actively playing the game. “Mobile is the fastest growing segment of our overall portfolio,” said David Haddad, president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Game of Thrones: Conquest is one of our top performing games on our portfolio to date.”

Players battle for control of Seats of Power, which include famous castles and areas of Westeros, from King’s Landing to Winterfell. With the addition of dragons, those battles are about to get a whole lot more fun.

According to game developer Dave Bisceglia, Warner Bros. Interactive will continue to work closely with HBO to introduce new updates once the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones airs in 2019. “This is the most exciting thing since launch,” he said. “Every player will have a dragon. It’s like a super weapon that taps into all the key parts of the game.”

As for the future of Conquest, Tom Casey, the vice president at WB Games Boston, think it can be sustained long after the show has ended. “It’s a really interesting time for mobile,” he said. “There are so many types of genres and types of game players. Our goal is to get players to play games for years and years, and we are carrying a lot of our historical experience with deep and rich MMOs. We foresee many years of working on this game.”
