Take the Black Live: HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel staffs up

Here’s a quick hit of our itinerary:

  • I don’t know if it’s trying to get out ahead of the rumors or what, but HBO has been releasing a lot of information about its Game of Thrones prequel series lately. To start, it confirmed that Naomi Watts has joined the cast in a lead role, and for that I am very thankful.
  • Fans have also uncovered some casting calls for the show. We’re starting to get a better idea of what this show, tentatively titled The Long Night, is going to look like.
  • And if casting news about the prequel isn’t enough, we also have new info about an actor joining the cast of Game of Thrones. Who is Toby Osmond, and what will he do in season 8?
  • HBO, a network that built its reputation to some extent on being willing to feature nudity when other networks wouldn’t, now requires an “intimacy coordinator” to be present on the sets of all shows and movies with sex scenes. We explain what an intimacy coordinator is, and discuss what this move could mean for HBO and Hollywood in general.

And right after we recorded this, HBO dropped another bomb when it announced that Poldark star Josh Whitehouse was coming aboard the prequel. The Long Night is falling, and we’re into it. And then we learned everything ever about season 8. It’s non-stop in the wild world of Game of Thrones news.
