1) Varys
If I were writing this list before A Dance with Dragons came out in 2011, I would have argued against a Varys POV for much the same reason I argued against a Littlefinger POV. But now that we’ve pulled back the curtain on this character a bit, I feel like it’s time.
In the epilogue of A Dance with Dragons, Varys appears in Grand Maester Pycelle’s chambers, crossbow in hand, and kills Ser Kevan Lannister, then serving as Lord Regent for Tommen. At this point, Varys has already killed Pycelle. In Kevan’s final moments, Varys tells him that he is trying to sow discord in the realm and allow Aegon Targaryen to take it more easily. It seems that he’s finally shown his hand.
But has he? There are still a lot of “ifs” involved here. For example, is Aegon a genuine Targaryen or a Blackfyre pretender, and if the latter, is he aware? With Aegon having landed in the Stormlands, now is the time to learn this information, and Varys is the one to relay it.
I want the whole truth of the supposed baby swap, and I want more info on who Varys really is. I want to know more about his motives, and his past. It would be a shame to keep the real Varys hidden past the end of this story, and few people are in a position to fill us in other than Varys himself.
