New point-of-view characters we want in the final Song of Ice and Fire novels

4) Euron Greyjoy

We said at the outset that we shouldn’t want POV chapters from mysterious characters who are privy to the lot of secrets. Euron Greyjoy, a megalomaniacal pirate who blows into A Feast for Crows wth a plan to claim Daenerys’ dragons for himself, fits that description, yet here he is.

But Euron is different from a lot of other such characters; many of the mysteries surrounding him could be interesting to solve but not detrimental to the plot. Where did he get his Valyrian steel suit of armor, for example? I would very much like to know, but it’s not a major reveal to be reserved for the very end of the story.

Another reason a Euron POV could be fun: he may be legitimately insane. Not only would that make it easy for Martin to hide things we aren’t supposed to know, but it would give him a chance to stretch his literary muscles and present us with a bizarre, symbolism-heavy chapter from within the mind of a madman. Martin’s descriptions of dreams and visions are among the most memorable in his novels, and with Euron hopped on on Shade of the Evening half the time, chapters from his perspective could be a loopy treat.
