Game of Thrones was the most popular on-demand show of 2018, despite not airing any new episodes

Just last week, we wrote about how, even though it aired no new episodes in 2018, Game of Thrones was the second-most talked about show of the year on Reddit. But you know what’s even better than people talking about your show? People watching it. According to data made available to USA Today, among Comcast’s over 22 million subscribers, Game of Thrones was the most-watched on demand show for 2018. And again, that’s despite it not airing a new episode since August of 2017.

“The fact that that show is still ranked No. 1 across the board when it wasn’t even current is pretty incredible,” said Brynn Lev, Comcast Cable’s VP of editorial and programming. “It shows just how large of a following that show has (and) how new people are still discovering it.”

That’s probably a big part of it, the discovery thing. The show’s upcoming eighth season will be its last, so I’m betting there are a lot of people out there who figure they might as well see what all the fuss has been about these past several years before the show ends forever. Welcome, newcomers! Enjoy the ride.
