There’s been a lot of news coming in about Disney’s The Mandalorian of late. The live-action series set in the Star Wars universe is being written and produced by Iron Man director Jon Favreau and will air exclusively on Disney’s upcoming streaming service — Disney + — in late 2019. The House of Mouse also recently confirmed that former Game of Thrones star Pedro Pascal (Oberyn Martell) had been cast in the lead role.

Also in the cast are Supernatural actress Emily Swallow, Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul star Giancarlo Esposito, Predator’s Carl Weathers, and Werner Herzog…yes, that Werner Herzog. And also Deadpool villain and former MMA fighter Gina Carano has signed on, along with Nick Nolte, looking like he’s getting ready to kidnap someone and mail them back to their family in pieces for Christmas:

It is, in short, a really interesting cast, and we are intrigued. Production is going on now, and Pascal recently gave fans a peek behind the scenes on his Instagram. Dave Filoni, the man who brought Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels into our lives, is directing the premiere episode of The Mandalorian. Because he’s a master animator, he thinks in drawings:

And Filoni signed them both, which pretty much makes them priceless Star Wars memorabilia even though Disney hasn’t aired any episodes yet.

We don’t know a ton about The Mandalorian, but Jon Favreau sketched out the basics on his Instagram a while back:

It’s possible I’m more excited for this show than I am for Star Wars: Episode IX, which is coming out around the same time.
