Rhaegar Targaryen will probably make another appearance
Game of Thrones has a lot of characters, and with only six episodes left, there may not be enough to spotlight all of them. We do know of a couple ones who are returning though, including the fierce Lyanna Mormont (Bella Ramsey) and two characters introduced last season: Ned Umber (Harry Grasby) and Alys Karstark (Megan Parkinson). You may recall that pair from the season 7 premiere, when Jon Snow made them swear oaths of fealty at Winterfell. Both of their fathers fought for the Boltons in the Battle of the Bastards, but Jon doesn’t believe in blaming the children for the mistakes of their parents.
So the next generation of Northern leaders will be present and accounted for, which is great. A lot of people are probably going to die in the conflict with the White Walkers, so the North will need younger people to step up.
However, the most interesting potential return is Wilf Scolding’s. Scolding played Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys’ brother and Jon’s father, in a flashback sequence in the season 7 finale. During filming, Scolding uploaded (and then deleted) a picture himself outside the Europa Hotel in Belfast, the nerve center of filming on season 8:
Now, this doesn’t 100% mean that Rhaegar is returning, but also…c’mon, yes it does. The fact that Scolding deleted the picture is particularly damning; there’d be no need to get rid of it, if it didn’t give away something it shouldn’t.
As for what Rhaegar will be doing, we don’t know. We imagine Bran will see him during another one of his trips into the past. Last time we saw Rhaegar, we learned that he and Lyanna Stark were Jon’s parents. What will we learn this time?
