James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy volumes 1 and 2, was dismissed this past summer by Disney after offensive tweets he made years ago surfaced online. Despite support from Guardians cast members to hire him back, Disney remained firm, and Gunn switched sides. He’s now writing (and maybe directing) a sequel to 2016’s Suicide Squad for Warner Bros. One of Marvel’s most reliable directors is now stumping for DC. Fight?

No fight. MTV asked Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige at last night’s Golden Globe Awards, and he was pretty measured:

"I don’t see a rivalry, I see cool films being made. And one thing you know about James Gunn, he makes cool films. I went to see Aquaman last night and I really, really enjoyed it. And you know me, I’ve always supported [them]."

That’s certainly magnanimous, although I guess it’s easy to be generous when you’re always winning.

Still, Gunn’s departure did cause problems for Disney. The third iteration of Guardians is on hiatus, and Feige was cryptic about its return. “Guardians [Vol. 3] will happen,” he said. “When, where, how? For a later time.”

Feige was more open on other topics however, including when and how the upcoming Avengers: Endgame got its title. “It was in place before we started developing the movie,” he revealed. “Or just as we were developing it. So Doctor Strange says that line because we knew it was the title.”

Black Panther was one of the most high-profile Marvel movies of 2018, and the only nominated for any Golden Globes. It didn’t win any, but Feige still called it “the most important victory we’ve ever had,” which is some quality executive speak. As for future projects. Feige teased a potential Silver Surfer movie headlined by Oscar-winning writer and director Adam McKay, who helped write the screenplay for the first Ant-Man. “He’s an honest to goodness fan,” Feige said. “I look forward to speaking with him more.”
